VOLUNTEER AMBASSADOR - WILTSHIRE MIND

The Jewson Western League’s Communications Officer, Ian Nockolds, has been made a Volunteer Ambassador for Wiltshire Mind, in recognition of his work to promote the charity and his efforts to raise the profile of mental wellbeing support in non-league football.

For the past two years, Ian has worked to develop a partnership between the Jewson Western League and local Mind charities across the South West. Ian has organised bucket collections at 21 Clubs, raising over £4,000. In April this year, Ian visited his first Wiltshire Club, Bradford Town, raising £183.54, including a £50 donation from the Bradford Town players. This season, the Jewson Western League includes four Wiltshire Clubs and Ian will be visiting all of them, presenting them with a specially designed poster that can be displayed in the players changing room, highlighting the important support and advice services Wiltshire Mind provide.

Paul Mills, the Chief Executive of Wiltshire Mind said; “Football's influence extends far beyond the pitch, making it a powerful platform to encourage open conversations with players and supporters - to talk about their mental health, and help reduce the stigma. We are delighted to welcome Ian Nockolds as our new Volunteer Ambassador to Wiltshire Mind. His appointment recognizes his passion and dedication - not only for football but for the need for better mental health amongst the non-league football community. Local Minds across the South West join me in thanking Ian for his great work”.

Ian Nockolds said; “It means a lot to be recognised for the awareness raising work I’ve done, but the most important thing is that we raise awareness about mental wellbeing. We need to destigmatise this issue, particularly for men and that is why its so important that the Western League have thrown their support behind this partnership. Raising money for local Mind charities ensures the can support people struggling with their mental health. I’ve already started planning my Club visits for this season and my relationship with Wiltshire Mind means so much in my home county”.
